A PATHWAY THROUGH HISTORY- an investigation into the history of the Fox and Goose was published on St. George's Day 2007.
Being the culmination of a year's research by Simon, Rachel and Jayne of Ale Inn Research (otherwise fondly known as the Pub Wombles), A PATHWAY details the historical, political and social background against which the Fox developed. Tracing the Fox back to an illegal alehouse ('tiddlywink' in medieval dialect) on the site of the Fox in the 1330's, and run by one Margery de Wyndhill, the book follows the developement of the pub through various incarnations, including a 16th Century Inn called Wynn Inn, though its heyday as part of a major industrial enterprise as a Making House and Alehouse in the 17th century, and to the alehouse and freehouse it has now become.
Copies of the book cost £5.00, all of which is donated to the British Kidney Patient Association. If you would like to order a copy, please send a cheque payable to Fox and Goose Charity Account for £6.50 (includes £1.50 post and packing) to the Fox at 9 Heptonstall Road, Hebden Bridge, HX7 6AZ. Don't forget to include your name and address, and please mark the envelope "Pathway Order". Your book will be depatched within a few days.
Please note- PATHWAY is currently out of print as further delving has unearthed some more interesting facts on the history of the Fox. Simon, Rachel and Jayne are in the process of updating the book, and the second edition should be available soon.
